About SGM Renaissance Choir KL 吉隆坡创价学会复兴合唱团简介
Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) Kuala Lumpur (KL) Renaissance Choir (formerly known as the Youth Choir), gave its debut performance in year 1997 during “The 1st Music & Art Festival” in Kuala Lumpur. In year 2000, the choir was officially named “Renaissance” by the President of the Soka Gakkai International, Mr. Daisaku Ikeda during his second visit to Malaysia. Renaissance Choir, as it is currently known is instructed by Malaysian tenor, Mr. Goh Huag Ooi.
Since year 2000, Renaissance Choir has actively participated in various community and charity cultural festival organized by SGM, and contributed during the opening ceremony performances of several SGM cultural centres in different states of Malaysia namely Johor, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Perak. In 2005, Renaissance Choir gave an outstanding performance in a symphony composed by renowned Japanese composer and conductor, Professor Shiro Yamamoto. The symphony was based on the poetry - “Youthful Country with A Shining Future” written by Mr. Daisaku Ikeda during his 1st visit to Malaysia in year 1988. The performance was accompanied by SGM’s Galaxy Chamber Orchestra to astounding reviews and appreciation from the audience. In 2006, Renaissance Choir participated in “The 2nd International Chinese Choral Competition” held in Singapore, and won the silver award. Renaissance Choir also had various cross-borders choral exchange with choirs such as SGI Taiwan Pacific Choir, Soka Gakkai Singapore Youth Choir and NOVO Concertante of the Philippines.
On May 19th, 2007, Renaissance Chamber Choir performed in “Casa Musica – Qing Hua Ying Yue” an evening of wonderful music by Ah Tang - renowed composer, conductor & violinist, under the baton of well-known local counter-tenor Mr. David Ngim, organised by the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall . The world premiere performance of Ah Tang’s works: “Jing Ye Si” and “Tian Jing Sha” by the chamber choir were highly complimented by the composer and earned high recognition from the local singing and choral community.In October 2007, KL Renaissance Choir together with Selangor Renaissance Choir contributed to the “50th Anniversary Merdeka Cultural and Arts Performance ‘50 Tahun Malaysiaku Gemilang’ ” event organized by the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of national independence.
